Justin Fitts
My name is Justin Fitts. I am an oil and acrylic painter. I began painting in high school and have taken a few studio art classes in college, but for the most part my painting is self-taught. I received an Associate of Arts degree from Southwestern Community College in 2012 with a focus in Art History. I have painted off and on in my free time over the years and in 2023 I decided to become more involved in the St. Louis art community. My paintings’ subject matter ranges from portraits to animals to household objects. My most recent project concentrates on common modern totems that, to me, characterize a distinct idea, be that a holiday, a season, or a lifestyle. The central figure is portrayed in a realistic style and is framed by geometric patterns, using bold lines and saturated colors to express an aura emblematic of the figure’s distinctive theme. For my realistic style, I draw inspiration from contemporary artists such as Kehinde Wiley and Josh Keyes. My love for geometric abstraction comes from the works of Don Pendleton. For my upcoming projects, I hope to explore what I find inspiring about this city and share my love for St. Louis with our wonderful community.
