Suzanne Lowry

The techniques and subject matter of Suzanne Lowry, A.A., B.S., M.A., have been influenced by her background as a physics instructor at the high school and college levels, as an author of research in remote sensing for the Cahokia Mounds Palisade Project, as a writer for several various publications, and as a lifelong volunteer and founder for many continuing projects for children's charities.

Upon deciding to pursue a long-neglected passion for the arts, she was blessed with the encouragement and guidance of such master artists as Ed Karasek, June Kelly, David and Shawn Cornell, and Billyo O’Donnell.  Her work has won numerous awards and has been selected for juried shows throughout the region, including the Greater St. Louis Art Association’s Festivals of Art at Queeny Park; MOsaics (Missouri Festival of Fine Art) and the Spring ArtWalk in historic St. Charles, MO; Art in the Park in Highland, IL; and gallery exhibits of the St. Louis Artists’ Guild in Clayton, MO, and the Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles, MO.

Some of her awards include best in sculpture and best in photography at national shows produced by the Gateway East Artists’ Guild, Belleville, IL, and best in black and white photography at the Cahokia Mounds Photography Competition in Collinsville, IL.  Suzanne’s work was also featured in “Through Our Eyes,” a three-woman show at the Absolutely Starving Art Studio, Belleville, IL.

She is a signature member of the St. Louis Artists' Guild, founder and coordinator for the Artists' Registry for Charitable Events, and a member of Art St. Louis and the Foundry Art Centre, Gateway East Artists' Guild Board member, also she is a resident artist at Framations Gallery 218 N. Main St. Charles , MO

Artist Statement
I am drawn to the symbolic and simplified.  I love to identify the essence of a subject and strip away the extraneous details.  In my Sculpture on the Rocks series and my Man-a-Kins photo series, this translates to the use of body language, rather than facial expressions, gender, and musculature, to convey my feelings.  I frequently use copper as a design and structural tool to harmonize my various media.  Whether working with photography, sculpture, or painting, I move between different materials and techniques to maintain uniqueness as the hallmark of my work.
