An all media juried exhibit of work focusing on the power and significance of color in imagery.

The hue, saturation and intensity of color determine its overall feel or impact. Here, we ask artists to focus on the power and significance of color in their imagery. Color can be brilliant in either its vibrancy or its methodical use in the work. Use of color should be the focal point. Will it be bold or subtle? Warm or cool? Calming or exciting? Use color to speak volumes!

Rules and Regulations for GEAG Exhibits

  1. There are three scheduled GEAG exhibits per year:
  1. a)“Best of GEAG” exhibit will be in the spring at the Edwardsville Arts Center
  2. b) “Gateway to Art” exhibit (also known as the Shrine Show) will be July/August at Our Lady of the Snows National Shrine
  3. c)The annual Holiday Show will be held at the December meeting/Christmas Party at the PSOP Building.
  4. ELIGIBILITY:  Exhibitions are open to members only.   Members must be in good standing to enter; the Treasurer’s record shall be considered final.  NOTE: All are welcome to join GEAG at any time during the year, even when applying for exhibitions.  To join, complete a membership application found and submit $35 with your exhibit entry.  All memberships expire the following March 31; dues are not prorated.
  5. Only original works may be exhibited.  Any copies or work done under instruction or from copyrighted photos/artwork will not be accepted. Prints from originals paintings or drawings, giclee prints of paintings or drawings, and digital reproductions of paintings or drawings are not allowed.  EXCEPTION:  This does not apply to GEAG artists who create digital photography or computer graphic art.
  6. Scheduled exhibition venues may exclude works featuring the nude figure; therefore, these works will not be accepted for any GEAG exhibit.
  7.  Artwork must be completed within the last three years for all GEAG exhibits.  Artworks that have previously won an award, including honorable mention, in prior GEAG shows are not eligible for any other GEAG exhibit.   This does not include awards received at the monthly GEAG art contest.
  8. NUMBER OF ENTRIES:  Members may enter up to three original pieces of artwork for “Best of GEAG” and “Gateway to Art”, but only one entry for the Holiday Show.  Diptychs and triptychs which are under one frame will be considered one entry for entry fee and judging purposes. If under separate frames, they will be considered separate paintings for entry fee and judging.
  9. FRAMING/SIZE OF ARTWORK:   All 2D artwork will be framed as follows:
  10. a) Watercolor/drawing/pastel paintings and digital photographs shall be securely and appropriately framed with a mat and under acrylic/plexiglas or glass.   D rings and wire, adequate for hanging weight, are required.  No saw tooth hangers or screw eyes.EXCEPTION: paintings which are floated on mat board with some mat border showing are acceptable. Digital photography shall be matted and framed as stated OR printed on 1.5” gallery wrapped canvas.
  11. b)  Oil/acrylic:  Framed canvas artwork must comply with hanging requirements listed above.  Unframed canvas must be 1.5” gallery wrapped with painted edges.
  12. c)  Maximum framed dimensions on the longest side shall not exceed: 32”, plus or minus 1/4”, for all exhibitions.  Exception:  Artwork for the Holiday Show may be any size provided the artist brings an easel to display the piece.
  13. d)  Mats, glass and plexiglass need to be clean and free of scratches.  Frames must have solid corners and no obvious damage.  Wood frames with glass must have paper dust covers on the back if the artwork is for sale.  Metal frames and framed canvasses do not require dust covers.
  14. e)  The Exhibits committee may disallow work not appropriately matted and framed.
  15. f)  Name, address and title of artwork must be taped to the back of the artwork at time of exhibition receiving date.
  16. The Exhibits committee has the sole authority to accept, place and hang entries. The actions of the exhibition committee shall be considered final.
  17. GEAG is not responsible for damaged or stolen artwork.  All entrants must sign a waiver of responsibility prior to or at the time of exhibition receiving date.
  18. Each artist must adhere to the specified times for receiving and retrieval. Paintings cannot be hung before or after, or removed before, specified times. All accepted work must remain installed until the designated retrieval time. This applies to all GEAG shows, except that the gallery may remove sold artwork when the buyer lives out of town. There will be no early drop-offs.  Artists who are unable to deliver or retrieve their own artworkmay authorize another party to do so.
  20. a) “Best of GEAG” – Edwardsville Arts Center (EAC):  GEAG will pay a fee of $300 to the EAC for the exhibit.   Members will pay $15.00 per piece or $40 for three pieces.  The EAC will retain a 20% commission on all sales (subject to change).
  21. b) “Gateway to Art”– Our Lady of the Snows National Shrine:  Members will pay $15 per piece or $40 for three pieces.  The Shrine will retain a 25% commission on all sales (subject to change).
  22. c) “Holiday Show” – PSOP:  No entry fee.

Awards Jurying

The Awards Juror for this competition is to be announced. Awards will be selected from the digital images submitted upon entry to the competition.


  • The Richeson75 Competitions are open to all artists over age 18.
  • All work entered must be original in concept/execution.
  • Artwork must have been created since January 1, 2016.
  • No work done in a class, workshop or under supervision is eligible.
  • Any piece selected as a finalist in any Richeson75 competition may not be resubmitted.
  • Winners of any Richeson75 Best in Show award are ineligible for any awards for 2 years following that win.
  • Artwork may be resubmitted to other Richeson75 shows if the piece was not a finalist, and the piece still meets restrictions (size, show theme, produced in the last 2 years, etc.).
  • Employees of Jack Richeson & Co., Inc. may not enter Richeson75 competitions.
  • Artwork Size Restrictions: Artwork may not exceed 144 sq. inches (height x width – not including framing) and may not weigh more than 30 lbs.


Acceptable Artwork

Only wall-hung (2-D) art may be entered and may be created with Oils, Oil Pastels and Acrylic, Soft Pastels, Drawing/Dry Media, Watercolor, Gouache, Casein, Printmaking, mosaic etc. No photography, digital (enhanced or created) or 3-D art/sculpture is allowed.


Only online submissions are accepted. Entry form must be filled out and files uploaded with entry foam. Mailed or delivered entries on CD/DVD are NOT accepted.
Artists may enter up to 6 works. A maximum of 3 artworks per artist can be selected as finalists.
Entry fee is $40 for the first entry and $10 per additional entry. (ex: if you enter 5 artworks, the entry fee would be $40 + 4*$10 for a total of $80.)

Image Preparation

Images must be 300ppi (pixels per inch). Hi-resolution digital images only are accepted. Images saved for web resolutions are not acceptable.

Painted signatures are accepted. Please do not overlay digital signatures.

Image Name: lastnamefirstinitial_titleofpainting *All Lowercase, No Spaces* (ex: Anna Smith’s painting named “Dog Spots” should be saved as smitha_dogspots.jpg)

Image Size: Shortest side of the image must be at least 4″ at 300ppi. (ex: Anna Smith scaled her image to be 1200px x 2700px (4″ x 9″ at 300ppi.) Hint: File size should be around 1MB, if image is smaller than 600KB, image is not Hi-Res.

Image Type: Save the files as a .jpg or .jpeg file at “high” or “maximum” quality (10, 11 or 12).

Images should ONLY be of the artwork – do not include matting, frame, etc. in the image. The image must be in focus, uniformly lighted and undistorted by camera angle, etc. If you need hints about taking good pictures, please click on the camera in the top menu.

Images submitted must represent the actual work. Do not digitally alter/enhance your images other than to match colors or crop/straighten the image. Jack Richeson & Co., Inc. reserves the right to withhold awards if jurors deem submitted entries to be below minimum standards of excellence. Juror decisions are final.

Any images that do not meet these specifications may be disqualified and discarded without being considered by the jurors and the jury fee will be forfeit by the artist. These are the images that will be used if your art is selected for the exhibit book: Be sure they are good!

By entering this competition, the artist gives the Richeson School of Art and Gallery the right to use submitted images for Richeson75 digital, print and web promotions.

Award Restrictions

Merchandise awards have no cash value. Standard shipping for merchandise in the contiguous 48 United States is included in the prize, but charges for remote delivery, special delivery or international deliveries are the responsibility of the winner/participant.

Preliminary Jurying

Selection of finalists will be based on digital images. Finalists will be selected by a committee of qualified art professionals. Awards Jurors will be respected, highly qualified artist/instructors, curators or collectors of note. Awards Juror(s) will view the submitted digital images to make his/her award selections.

Exhibit Catalogs

We anticipate that we will publish a full-color hard-cover book catalog of entries submitted to this competition (finalists, alternates and a selection of other meritorious entries). You will receive an email after the show is juried with a purchase link.


Work need not be for sale to be eligible for the exhibition. Richeson School of Art & Gallery will make every effort to encourage sale of work available for purchase. Finalists will receive a consignment agreement. Works will be for sale unless noted as NFS [not for sale] on the entry form. Richeson Art School and Gallery will retain a 25% commission for all sales of work from this exhibition. Payment for sales will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the close of the exhibit.

Presentation (for in-gallery exhibits only)

All entries must be suitably framed and wired for hanging (no clips or saw-tooth hangers). Gallery-Wrap canvas or cradled panel is acceptable as long as the sides are neatly painted/finished. Gallery-Wrap canvas must have a depth of 1-1/2″ to 2″. No staples can be visible on the sides of the canvas.

Delivery/Shipping (for in-gallery exhibits only)

Works on paper must be framed and glazed (Plexiglas recommended). Finalists will ship or deliver works to Richeson School of Art & Gallery for the Awards Exhibit. Shipped work must be sent in a reusable container. The artist is responsible for the cost of shipping to and from Richeson’s. Pre-paid labels or a credit card number for return shipping must be included in the shipping container with the artwork. INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL CUSTOMS CHARGES/DUTIES and the appropriate forms for the return of their artwork must be included in the shipping container.


For in-gallery exhibits, Artists should insure their hand-delivered or shipped work, as Jack Richeson & Co., Inc. and/or its subsidiaries is not liable for damage to artwork in transit or during display at Richeson School of Art & Gallery.

Other Conditions

Artists agree to abide by all contest rules by their entry. Failure to comply with these rules in any manner constitutes withdrawal from the competition. If Jack Richeson & Co., Inc. deems the pool of entrants insufficient, the competition will be cancelled and all jury fees will be returned to entrants. This Prospectus shall be governed as to validity, interpretation, construction, effect, and in all other respects by the laws and decisions of the State of Wisconsin, without regards to its conflict-of-law provisions. The Artist hereby irrevocably consents to the jurisdiction of the courts of Outagamie County, Wisconsin with respect to any matter arising under this Security Agreement, and further irrevocably consents to service of process by hand delivery to the address listed above for the Artist.

This all-media exhibition addresses the surface quality of artworks. A fundamental element of artwork, texture can be expressed physically or visually. This exhibition encourages the artist to focus on this element, and the implications it holds for the viewer. It asks both artists and viewer to consider what the physicality of the work conveys. The phrase “surface level” often alludes to a shallow interpretation: this exhibition provides the opportunity to explore the depth of the exterior.

Call for artists! GEAG invites submissions for the GEAG EAC Exhibition. The exhibition is open to 2D and
3D GEAG artists. 100 pieces of art will be exhibited. Only the first 100 pieces entered will be accepted.
Dates and Deadlines

  • Deadline for Entries: April 3, 2019
  • Exhibition Dates: April 26, 2019 – May 24, 2019
  • Opening Reception: April 26, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
  • Delivery of Art: 4/19 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, 4/20 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
  • Pick Up of Art: May 24 between 2:00-4:00 pm or May 25 from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

Entry Fees

  • Entry fee of $5.00 for each piece of art entered

Awards and Prizes

  • Open to GEAG members only
  • Work must be the original creation of the artist and completed within the past 3 years
  • Work completed under the direction of an instructor or in a class/workshop is ineligible.
  • Work that has previously won an award in a GEAG professionally judged exhibition is
  • 3D work that is extremely fragile, very small, that has a very small bottom/base, is unstable, or
    does not sit flat on a pedestal is ineligible.


  • 2D work must be properly framed with braided picture wire for hanging (no saw tooth hangers)
  • Work on canvas may be framed, strip-framed or gallery-wrapped
  • 2D work may not exceed 32” including frame
  • 2D work may not exceed 40 lbs
  • 3D work may sit on a pedestal or be wall-hung (not exceed 40 lbs)
  • A limited number of standard size pedestals are available for display of 3D work
  • If your 3D work is odd-sized, excessively heavy, or requires a very specific size pedestal, plan
    on providing that pedestal yourself
